Alice McVeigh, a long-term Londoner, was born in South Korea, and lived until she was twelve in Bangkok, Singapore and Myanmar, while her father worked in the US State department. When Alice was 13, the family moved to Washington D.C., permitting Alice to start cello. She graduated with distinction from Jacobs School of Music, in cello performance. 

After Jacqueline du Pre accepted her as a post-grad by tape, she arrived in London in 1980 to very bad news. Du Pre’s health had worsened and she had begged her “cello daddy”, William Pleeth, to teach all her pupils instead. After two years of study with the amazMoreing Pleeth, Alice married Simon McVeigh - and stayed. Alice spent the next twenty years balancing orchestral work (touring on four continents with the Royal Philharmonic and other London orchestras) with her writing (selling her first two novels to “big five” publishers Orion/Hachette, and a speculative thriller to Unbound). 

Her most recent books (a series of Jane Austenesque series of novels and a scifi thriller) have been Amazon category bestsellers, quarterfinalists for the prestigious BookLife Prize, “Editors Pick – outstanding” at Publishers Weekly, Gold Medallists at the Global, eLit and Pencraft Book Awards, runner-up at the Independent Press Awards and finalists for the International Book Awards, Indie Excellence Awards, Chanticleer's Goethe Award and many others.

Alice and Simon share one daughter, two sausage dogs, a second home in Crete and an incurable addiction to tennis.
